Mast

"Spiderman"

Jumping a spinnaker halyard is about hand speed over your head.  We need you to be the fastest in pulling up a halyard in the fleet and the one way to do that is exercise over your head.  Our bodies are not designed to work well with our arms over our head because of the lack of blood flow.  When your arms are up your heart has to pump that much more to get the blood in the muscles that are working.  Any exercise that requires work over your head would help with hand speed.  The best is rock climbing walls or rope climbing.  Mix that type of exercise with some good aerobic time and you will be great.  You also need to work with Matt on systems to get the A sail out of the boat easier.  We will try a bag hoist and other ideas that could make if faster, yet the result of a good hoist will make the difference on the first leeward leg.    I also need you to manage the weight on the boat, particularly down wind.  I will explain this weekend.

Pre-Boat Call

* Check Weather
* Eat a good breakfast
* Bring appropriate sailing clothes  (get a good set of gloves)
* Anticipate the days condition and how it will all work

Pre-Race- Race

* Help get sails ready for the day
* Hoist sails and start hiking upwind
* Call waves when necessary  (wave coming in 3,2,1)   (Good water for awhile)
* On last tack to mark make sure sp inn halyard is free
* On last tack have halyard in your hand while hiking
* Hike hard around mark and stay on rail during offset let
* As we round top mark use the halyard to pull yourself up (sneaking up the head if banded)
* Listen for command to hoist, then make it a race for you to get it to the mark.  (say made once halyard is at full hoist mark)
* Hike if necessary or sit down in the appropriate area
* Down wind take command with weight movement (we will practice this weekend)
* At bottom mark help with jib hoist and then assist with main trim around leeward mark (jump sheet at mast)
